Day 4

At the After-School Program, I was able to begin working with the kids as they learned "All About Birds." We took all the students inside, it ended up being about 10 kids total. When the kids got in, we showed them the live feed of the heron nest. The kids were super excited about getting to see the birds, and couldn't believe that it was happening right then!

We then sat the kids down and had them type using the Typing Mat program on the computers. This gave us a pre-assessment to see where the students were at in their writing abilities. Most of the students really seemed to enjoy Typing Mat. Apparently most of them use this when they have computer time during school.

When we showed the students the All About Birds website, they were excited, especially when we showed them how to listen to the birds calls. It only took a few minutes and the students were super excited to explore the website on their own.

I really enjoyed this day in the classroom. The student's enthusiasm was palpable, and it was exciting to show them something that could enhance their learning about the world around them. It made me very excited to do something similar in my own classroom years from now.
